Perinatal Depression Working Group

The Perinatal Depression Working Group has been set up by the North West Slopes Division of General Practice to:

  • forge linkages with local child and maternal health services and primary mental health care services;
  • promote to GPs and allied health professionals the various care pathways available for women experiencing Perinatal depression;
  • provide services under ATAPS for women experiencing Perinatal depression;
  • promote and disseminate materials and resources to GPs and allied health professionals; and
  • contribute data on Perinatal depression to the ATAPS National Minimum Data Set.

The aim of the Initiative is to improve the prevention and early detection of antenatal and postnatal depression, and to provide better care, support and treatment for expectant and new mothers experiencing Perinatal depression. For the purpose of this Initiative, Perinatal depression is depression that occurs during pregnancy and/or in the postnatal period up to a year after the baby’s birth.
