National Prescribing Service (NPS)
The NPS (National Prescribing Service) is an Australian, non-profit organisation that operates at arm’s length of the Government and is independent of the pharmaceutical industry. Set up in 1998, it provides a nationally coordinated range of prescribing initiatives and funds divisional QUM (Quality Use of Medicines)/NPS programs as well as other QUM initiatives Australia wide. The NPS is recognised as a world leader in the area of QUM.
The National Prescribing Service runs a Quality Use of Medicines program within all Divisions in Australia. The NPS Facilitator visits GPs in their practices at times convenient for them to provide them with independent and consistent up to date information that is evidence based and peer reviewed.
Locally, the National Prescribing Service facilitator for the North West Slopes Division of General Practice is Janet Robilliard. Janet works 2 days per week - Wednesdays & Thursdays.
